Six months into 2023, it seems appropriate to assess the “best worst Hindi films” that we have seen so far. With Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan dominating the box office and receiving positive reviews in 2023, Hindi film had a strong start. However, as the year progressed, there were fewer and fewer Hindi films that attracted audiences to theatres. The movies that received a lot of promotion ended up being duds, and the movies with a lot of support were obviously immune to negative reviews. However, it’s time to review the films Bollywood gave us after almost half a year. Unfortunately, there were more misses than hits this time. Five of the many flops we saw this year could legitimately be considered the “Best Worst Hindi Films” we saw.
1. Mission Majnu
Although it seems like ages have passed since this movie was released, just picturing Sidharth Malhotra playing a lousy undercover agent in Shershaah makes you wonder how this actor received such a warm response. It is difficult to understand why creators believed that viewers, who also watch much better shows like The Family Man and Special Ops, would appreciate this mediocrity.
2. Shehzada
In the first five minutes of the Kartik Aaryan movie, a character decides to give up his newborn son because it appears that his boss’ son is dead, but after learning that everyone is alive, he still decides to exchange the children. This scene tells you everything you need to know about the movie. The movie seems to think that it is making a nature vs. nurture commentary on children who grow up in financially diverse households, but sadly none of those observations actually land. Far be it for anyone to actually understand the bigger purpose of this asinine action. As the Hindi version of Allu Arjun’s Telugu hit Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Shehzada was a tried-and-true concept. However, it fell flat, and we’re left wondering why.
3. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar
The director’s misogynistic idea of how to make a woman feel like her worries are unfounded and she should just give up her beliefs because her boyfriend is asking her to would have been easier to process if Ranbir Kapoor’s Mickey had just kept quiet for a few seconds in this Luv Ranjan movie. Naturally, she gives up—and she does so happily—because if a man, who is overly attached and won’t accept no for an answer, doesn’t want to leave his parents’ home despite his wife’s requests, then he simply needn’t.Luv Ranjan once more told his audience in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar that men are the superior species and that women are nothing more than cunning creatures who only care about themselves.
4. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan
Kisi Ka Bhai, a Salman Khan film It wasn’t done on purpose, but Kisi Ki Jaan was hilarious. The movie, if we can call it that, was even more irrational than Radhe and Race 3, and it didn’t seem like it was actually pre-planned by anyone. Sincerably, it seemed to be made up as it went along.Salman makes an entrance in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan while the other actors are cheering and whistling, just so someone can hide when the audience doesn’t respond in the same way. You can almost feel the pain in Pooja Hegde’s voice as she has to match Salman’s embarrassing dance moves. Pooja Hegde actually has to dance with Bhai. The audience once adored this subgenre of Bhai films, but Bhai hasn’t changed while the audience has.
5. Bloody Daddy
Shahid Kapoor’s recent JioCinema release tried to be suspenseful but ended up being confusing. The movie seemed disjointed, where it would take everyone a minute to even catch up with what is happening on screen, and then they would get lost again, all in the name of serving twists. It was tedious to watch due to the extremely flimsy writing and sloppy editing that couldn’t find a rhythm. But at least streaming it was free!
